Modern Furniture Vs. Antique Furniture

In today's furniture market there really is no comparison of modern furniture VS vintage or antique furniture. Most furniture made today is made in China ,India, or Indonesia and is designed mainly to have a high look ,and a low price. How do they achieve this? Well, they use inferior materials, such as particle board(saw dust and glue) or they use fiberboard (fibers and glue) for the structures. The interiors may have some real wood, but be assured it will be the lowest grade possible. Many of the glides and runners and moving parts are plastic. If any real good grade wood is used for veneering it will be laser cut , which will make it as thin as possible. How do they hold this together? Of course, they will use staples, that should keep it together, just about long enough for you to get it home. Once in use it will fall apart ,and you will find your self back in the market for more furniture. Don't get me wrong there are many new furniture companies who still make good furniture, if you are a multi-millionaire you can buy it. Example, a new complete dining room set with china cabinet , buffet , table and 6 chairs in solid mahogany would be around $60,000 to $70,000 plus tax. Now, antique furniture is made of real wood , and in high grades of lumber, such as mahogany, walnut, and cherry. Many of the earlier pieces will be constructed of solid cherry, or solid walnut, or solid mahogany. How are they held together? With hand cut dovetails , or machine cut dovetails, in the front and back. The interiors will even be made out of high grade lumbers, such as mahogany, walnut, and cherry. How to Care for your Mahogany Furniture
Mahogany Furniture should be cleaned as needed. There are a few things that you should know

Use a clean 100% cotton dampened rag or towel

Don't use dry towels or rags this will just grind the dust and dirt into the finish, causing surface scratches

Pour or spray the polish onto the rag not the furniture

Don't use polishes which contain wax and silicone

We would recommend OZ polish or Mohawk Bristol Cream, both polishes actually repel dust, or Mohawk classic care polish which has no silicone.
